FAQ

OPEN A2 Certificate

How to Obtain the Open A2 Certificate

To obtain the A2 certificate, you must complete a well-structured theoretical and practical training course:

Possession of the Open A1-A3 Certificate: This is the fundamental prerequisite. You must have already passed the online basic exam.

Self-Practical Training: Before taking the A2 exam, you must carry out and declare that you have completed a series of practical flight exercises in an A3 category scenario (an isolated area, away from people and built-up areas).

Advanced Theory Study: The A2 exam syllabus covers three key topics in depth:

  • Meteorology: Assessment of atmospheric conditions, wind, and urban microclimates.
  • UAS flight performance: Balancing, payload, and flight envelope.
  • Technical and operational mitigations of ground risk: Management of safety distances and emergency procedures.

Recognised Theory Exam: Passing the theory test consisting of 30 multiple-choice questions, conducted under the supervision of a Recognised Entity / ENAC Training Centre (online in proctored mode or in person), or on an EASA-authorised proctored online platform in one of the EU countries.

Who needs to obtain the OPEN A2 certificate

Where can I fly with the OPEN A2 certificate?

With the A2 certificate you can:

It remains mandatory to consult aeronautical maps (e.g. D-Flight) and comply with any local restrictions.

Which drones can I use?

With the A2 certificate, you can fly with:

  • CE-marked C2 class drones, weighing up to 4 kg

The drone must have:
